San Diego law enforcement officials appear to be assessing whether a man who was arraigned in federal court in San Jose, California on immigration charges Monday morning is tied to the killing of Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas.
Rosas was shot to death last Thursday night in Campo while, according to Border Patrol officials, tracking a group of people trying to enter the United States illegally.
Court documents say Salvador Picaso Ambriz was arrested in Santa Clara last Friday for being in the country illegally. The documents say a San Diego County Sheriff Deputy who is helping investigate Rosas' killing was present when immigration agents interviewed Picaso.
The papers say Picaso was deported to Tijuana on Monday last week and crossed the border again afterwards.
San Diego Sheriff's Deparment, San Jose Police and immigration officials are referring all questions about Picaso to the FBI team handling the Rosas case.
FBI officials who are leading the investigation will not confirm Picaso's alleged ties.
Meanwhile, Mexican authorities say the gun they confiscated from a man a witness says killed Rosas' is not a Border Patrol weapon.
