Getting into the University of California is getting increasingly competitive.
UC officials reported Wednesday that 71.6 percent of California freshman applicants were offered admission for fall 2010, compared with 72.5 percent in 2009 and 75.4 percent in 2008.
All undergraduate campuses, except Merced and Riverside, reported their lowest admission rates ever.
Officials attributed the increased competition to a record number of applicants vying for fewer spots on most campuses.
UC says there was a systemwide increase in admission offers to Asian, Latino and African American students, while offers to white applicants declined.
UC offered admission to more applicants this year, but offers to out-of-state and international students accounted for most of that increase.
