San Diego-based Sempra Energy today announced a successor to its retiring president, Neal Schmale.
Effective Oct. 1, Mark Snell will head the energy company, overseeing infrastructure and international businesses, the Fortune 500 company announced in a statement. Snell, 55, currently serves as Sempra's executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Sempra also announced today that Joseph Householder, 56, will succeed Snell. Householder currently serves as senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer of the company.
"Today's appointments continue our orderly leadership succession process," Sempra Chief Executive Officer Debra Reed said. "Over the past decade, Mark Snell and Joe Householder have served as key members of our executive team. They have the management experience and demonstrated leadership to help advance our strategic vision."
Schmale, 64, will remain as chief operating officer and continue as a member of the company's board of directors until his retirement Nov. 1.
The company also announced that operations outside its major utilities - San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Co. - will be consolidated into two subsidiaries.
Sempra International will be made up of all operations in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru, and include its liquefied natural gas unit. Sempra U.S. Gas & Power will include domestic activities other than SDG&E and SoCalGas.
