Bruce the green sea turtle will be released into San Diego Bay today after undergoing nine months of veterinary care at SeaWorld San Diego.
Personnel with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found the turtle in late January in the southern part of the bay, suffering from gunshot wounds, dehydration, cuts and a crack in his underside.
He's now up to 300 pounds and can forage for food on his own.
Park officials will outfit Bruce with a transmitter that will be used to track his movements and release him back into the bay about 40-50 yards offshore.
Green sea turtles are considered endangered.
