California Attorney General Files Suit Over “Biodegradable” Claim
The California Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against three companies she says are misleading the public about how their products are “earth friendly”.
State Attorney General Kamala Harris is suing three companies she said have made false and misleading claims over their plastic water bottles. At issue is the term “one hundred percent biodegradable and recyclable.”
Harris noted it’s illegal in California to label a plastic food or beverage container as biodegradable - because of the time it takes to break down. She said the companies’ actions violate state law and mislead consumers.
One of the companies being sued, Enso Plastics, makes the bottles. The two others, Balance Water and Aquamantra, use the bottles for their products. A spokesman for Enso Plastics said it is an environmental company trying to do the right thing and that there is sound science backing up the organization’s claims.
