The new webcam offers a real-time view atop the banks of the Smith River in the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near the Oregon border.
Emily Burns is with Save the Redwoods League - one of the groups behind the project, which went live Friday in honor of Arbor Day.
"It is so fun to be able to stop what you're doing and take a moment to look at these redwood trees," said Burns.
The webcam is mounted on a building across from the river and can rotate with four different views of the flowing water and tall redwoods - home to salmon, river otters and bald eagles.
Burns said that "if people have a chance to get closer to the forest by looking at it through the webcam, they're going to realize how important it is to save these types of places, especially in light of the challenges of closing parks and climate change."
"Explore.org" is the other group involved in launching the webcam, part of its "Pearls of the Planet" live-streaming initiative.
