San Diego County is in store for a warm and dry weekend, with strong rip currents and elevated surf along the coast, forecasters said Saturday.
Officials with the National Weather Service expected high pressure and offshore winds to usher in temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above average for the coast and valleys on Sunday, and five to 10 degrees higher than normal for the mountains and deserts.
In the valleys, highs are expected to be in the low to mid-80s Saturday and could reach 90 on Sunday and in the low to high 70s this weekend in the mountains. Temperatures in the deserts could reach 90 Saturday and 86 on Sunday, according to the weather service.
Inland, temperatures are forecast to be up to 79 Saturday and up to 89 Sunday. High temperatures along the San Diego County coastline are expected to be 69-74 degrees Saturday and 78-83 on Sunday.
Strong rip currents and elevated surf are also expected along the coast this weekend and into Monday, according to the NWS.
Forecasters said a long-period northwest swell would build Sunday afternoon, bringing larger surf to the beaches south of Del Mar. Five-foot sets are expected south of Del Mar on Sunday.
Weather service forecasters issued a warning to beachgoers that dangerous swimming conditions were possible. Swimmers were advised to obey warning signs and flags, speak with a lifeguard before heading in and to stay near lifeguards.
