Warm summer weather was forecast to prevail in San Diego County through Independence Day as high clouds Saturday were predicted to give way to mostly sunny skies Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

"Low clouds shrouded the beaches this morning and will have a hard time clearing this afternoon," the NWS said Saturday morning.

There remained a small chance for a shower or thunderstorm over the mountains and deserts Saturday, forecasters said.

High temperatures along the coast Saturday were expected to be 70-75 degrees with overnight lows of 58-63. Western valley highs will be 80-85 and highs near the foothills will be 88-93.

Mountain highs were predicted to be 88-95 with overnight lows of 61- 71. Highs in the deserts will be around 108 with overnight lows of 81-87.

Elevated fire weather conditions were expected Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings through at least Monday in the mountain passes and desert slopes, with westerly winds 15-25 mph gusting to 35 mph at times, forecasters said.

Strengthening high pressure over the Southwest was predicted to bring dry and warmer weather next week.
