San Diego State University will kick off Homecoming Week today by celebrating the 75th anniversary of Aztec Bowl with a rededication ceremony.
The event will take place at the foot of Viejas Arena, which is where the old stadium once stood. It was in the Aztec Bowl that President John F. Kennedy gave a commencement speech to the class of 1963.
"While only a small part of the Aztec Bowl as it once stood remains today, it holds an important place in SDSU's history,'' said Associated Students Executive Vice President Darin Ruiz.
SDSU President Elliot Hirshman and long-time SDSU supporter Leon Parma will speak during today's brief ceremony.
Homecoming Week will take place from Oct. 3-8. A number of events for students and alumni will take place over the week leading up to the Homecoming Game on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Qualcomm Stadium against TCU.
