San Diego's fire marshall is putting a 100 tent limit on the protest village that sprung up near city hall this past weekend. Officials want the tents limited for safety reasons. But protesters are still showing up.
"It's not really a belligerent protest," said Paul Schwartz, who works at the Civic Theatre. "Everybody seems really well mannered and accommodating - as far as people that work here are still able to do their jobs and not being harassed or anything."
The tent village has no official permits, but police are allowing it to exist for now.
Occupy San Diego protesters say they plan to remain in the Civic Center plaza indefinitely. A small group started camping out there over the weekend to protest financial shenanigans on Wall Street.
"We have all the things little villages have," said Frank Gormlie, a protest organizer. "We have a medical tent people's clinic. We have two libraries, a free food line, we have a media tent over here, we have energy, legal."
Protesters promise to stay at the plaza indefinitely.
