The push is on to get Californians to sign up for health insurance by the end of the month.
Covered California is staging more than 500 events statewide over the next few weeks to encourage people to enroll by Jan. 31, when open enrollment in the state's health insurance exchange ends.
More than 238,000 had selected a health plan under Covered California as of Jan. 2, officials said. They predict at least 295,000 consumers will enroll by the end of the month.
Covered California’s Roy Kennedy encourages those who haven’t signed up yet to get some in-person help.
“We do experience people who’ve never been insured, so we really want them to get the in-person assistance, to really understand what they’re signing up for, and make sure they’re signing up for the right product," Kennedy said.
Kennedy explained that most enrollment events feature someone who can help consumers in more than one language.
The health insurance exchange estimates about 750,000 Californians who are eligible for subsidized coverage are still uninsured.
