It appears the City of San Diego has heard the pleas of residents and business people from Ocean Beach.

Council member Jennifer Campbell is being joined by OB business leaders and County health officials on Tuesday afternoon to announce stepped-up efforts to deter large crowds from gathering on Wednesday nights by the pier.

The drum circle gatherings have been happening for a couple of years now, but locals say the crowds have been getting bigger and they say there is very little physical distancing going on. OB Town Council President Mark Winkie told KPBS that almost no one wears masks at the event.

Winkie said locals feel disrespected because lots of trash is left behind and community members must then clean everything up.

The new enforcement efforts are being unveiled at a 1pm news conference today.
