Al-Qaida has gotten stronger, and an expert on the region says it is because U.S. officials were sidetracked by preparing for war in Iraq.
Bruce Riedel, Brookings Institution senior fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, said al-Qaida is now trying to build an infrastructure to attack in western Europe. He said the terrorist network was able to rebuild because "we took our eye off the ball." Riedel said al-Qaida was cornered in the Afghanistan-Pakistan, but was sidetracked by preparations for the war in Iraq.
Riedel talks to Madeleine Brand.
