Returning Iraqi Parliament to Weigh Legislation

The Iraqi parliament reconvenes after a monthlong break to consider a package of 10 separate bills put forward by the government. It was not immediately clear whether the package includes any of the so-called benchmark legislation favored by the U.S.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi appeals court has upheld the death sentence against one of the most notorious figures in Saddam Hussein's regime. Saddam's cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali," was sentenced to death earlier this year for his part in the massacre of Kurdish civilians during the final stages of Iraq's war against Iran in the 1980s.
