China Quake: Shifting Gears When Disaster Strikes

All Things Considered traveled to China in May to prepare a weeklong series of specials from Sichuan province. They soon found themselves shifting gears when a 7.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the area, flattening buildings and killing tens of thousands of people.

NPR hosts Melissa Block and Robert Siegel, and producer Andrea Hsu, talk about having to shift gears and provide eyewitness accounts of destruction and survival.
