A Pacific bottlenose dolphin born at SeaWorld San Diego on Tuesday appears to be in good health, as does its mother, park officials said.

The baby was born to 30-year-old Kolohe in a behind-the-scenes pool at SeaWorld following a one-year gestation period. The calf represents the 79th dolphin birth at the park.

Kolohe and her baby were swimming together and bonding in the pool following the birth around 12:30 p.m. The youngster weighs about 40 pounds. Its gender will be determined in a few weeks.

The baby and its mother will be monitored by animal care staff around the clock, according to SeaWorld. They will be watching for frequency of respiration and nursing.
