Beijing Dance Theatre

Dance, Visual Arts

Beijing Dance Theater is a unique dance troupe that's led by a choreographer and two visual artists.

Choreographer Wang Yuanyuan roots her dances in Chinese traditions, but blends them with contemporary movements that are often thought-provoking and innovative.

At this show, selections from her version of "Hamlet" will be showcased, a piece that interprets Hamlet as a man confronting his melancholy and doubt in the face of death. Also on the program is "Wild Grass," which is inspired by the poetry of Chinese literary giant Lu Xun.

Details: 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Balboa Theatre, 868 4th Ave., downtown. $25 to $46; find tickets to Beijing Dance Theatre.
