Summer Music: San Diego Songwriter Alfred Howard Teams Up With His Mom For New Project
Music and art are coming together in a new multimedia project by one of San Diego's most prolific musicians.
Songwriter and producer Alfred Howard is on a quest to write 100 songs — each one accompanied by an original watercolor painting by his mother, the artist Marian Howard. The project is called "Alfred Howard Writes." And, it almost didn't happen. Howard says he was on the verge of quitting music before this project began.
"During the downtime of the pandemic, I started to get a passion for writing again and I was trying to figure out a way to involve myself in music without the gigs but work with new people and I came up with this idea," Howard said.
As part of our Summer Music Series, mother and son talked about the inspiration behind the project and what working together has meant for their relationship.
