A Camp Pendleton-based Marine killed Tuesday in Afghanistan was identified today. Second Lt. Robert M. Kelly, 29, of Tallahassee, Fla., died in combat operations in Helmand Province, according to the Department of Defense.
Kelly was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I MEF.
He was among five Camp Pendleton-based Marines killed in the Helmand Province since last Thursday. Since June, the base has suffered almost weekly losses amounting to more than two dozen deaths.
