Study: Early Death Risk Doubles in Veterans With PTSD

Medical News Today reports on a new study that reveals that veterans have double the risk of death from any causes and a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular death if they suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), compared to other veterans.

Researchers examined the medical records of 286,194 individuals who had received treatment in VA medical centers in Nevada and Southern California. Their average age was 63 years and 85.1% of them were male. Some of them had been active during the Korean War. The researchers found that those with PTSD had a 2.41 higher risk of death from all causes compared to other veterans.
