Evan Salerno, the 23-month-old toddler seriously injured when his house collapsed during a tornado at Camp Lejeune, is still in critical condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital, according to the Jacksonville Daily News. The paper reports doctors Sunday performed exploratory surgery on Evan, who suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs, a broken femur, and a cracked pelvis because of the storm.
Salerno family friend Jenny Howard tells WITN-TV the Salernos lost their home and all of their possessions when the tornado hit the Tarawa Terrace II housing complex at Camp Lejeune:
Howard says Evan's parents are at his side at Pitt Memorial. She is in the process of collecting donations for the Salerno family. Little Evan turns 2 on May 11.
