Christmas in July for San Diego Military Families (Video)

Christmas can be a lonely time for the children of military parents. Mom or dad is often deployed when it's time for the tree to be trimmed and the house prepped for Santa's arrival. But thanks to the folks at the San Diego Armed Services YMCA, more than 700 San Diego-based servicemembers and their families got to celebrate Christmas together, albeit in the middle of July.

This morning's event, called "The Christmas You Missed," featured a gingerbread house building contest, Christmas Carolers, a pony dressed as a reindeer, and (of course) a visit from Santa.

Dena Logan Butler was wowed by The Christmas You Missed. She posted this message on the Facebook page of the San Diego Armed Services YMCA:

"I would like to say THANKS again for making this morning possible:) It means alot to us, and our children had a great time! A deployment is gonna keep us apart again this Christmas as well, so we will look forward to this again next year!"

KFMB-TVstopped by The Christmas You Missed, and posted this video of the event:
