Navy Families Prepare for Hurricane Irene (Video)

Navy families in the military town of Norfolk, Virginia are gearing up for a possible hit from Hurricane Irene. The Weather Channel is now reporting Irene has strengthened to a Category 3, and some computer models tracking the storm's future course have the hurricane swiping the Virginia coast.

The Navy is urging Sailors to get their families prepared for a major emergency. The Virginian-Pilot quotes Vice Adm. Daniel Holloway, commander,Second Fleet, as saying:

According to the Virginian-Pilot, the Navy wants Sailors and their families to prepare an evacuation plan to leave, and an emergency kit if they stay put. That kit should contain things like a three-day supply of non-perishable food and water, first-aid supplies, and prescription drugs taken by family members.
