San Diego native Sgt. 1st Class Kristoffer Domeij was killed October 22 in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense. Domeij, an Army Ranger, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
A news release from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Public Affairs office reports Domeij was on his 14th deployment to Afghanistan when he was killed.
Lt. Col. David Hodne, commander of 2nd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment., said of Domeij:
“He was one of those men who was known by all as much for his humor, enthusiasm, and loyal friendship, as he was for his unparalleled skill and bravery under fire. This was a Ranger you wanted at your side when the chips were down. He and his family are very much part of the fabric that defines 2nd Ranger Bn. He is irreplaceable…in our formation…and in our hearts.”
Domeij leaves behind his wife Sarah, and daughters Mikajsa and Aaliyah. All live in Lacey, Washington. Domeij's mother, Scoti Domeij, lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his brother Kyle lives in San Diego. Kyle Domeij told the North County Times his brother went to Rancho Bernardo High School and graduated in 2001.
