The defense attorneys of Fort Hood shooting suspect Maj. Nidal Hasan have requested a jury consultant and a pre-trial publicity expert for their client's defense. The Associated Press reports Hasan's attorneys have asked a military judge to consider the requests, saying a jury consultant could better help a military panel consider life in prison as a punishment.

Prosecutors in the case argue the defense consultants would be an unnecessary expense. Those experts would be paid for by the government, according to UPI.

Hassan currently faces the death penalty for his alleged role in shooting to death 13 people and attempting to kill 32 others in November 2009. Hassan was also shot during the rampage, and is now paralyzed.
