The tastes of Staff Sgt. Vincent J. Bell varied from listening to hip hop music to watching SpongeBob SquarePants on television, according to his Facebook page. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Crockett High School in 2001. And on November 30th, Bell lost his life in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense reports the 28-year-old was killed in combat in the dangerous Helmand province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines based at Camp Pendleton.
According to his Facebook page, Bell joined the Marines in June of 2001.
