More information is coming to light about the U.S. soldier who allegedly killed 16 Afghan civilians for completely unfathomable reasons. CNN reports the soldier is an Army staff sergeant from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state, where he is part of the Special Forces unit. He works in support of the Green Berets.
Accordingto CBS News, he is a 38-year-old married man with two children. The soldier is on his first deployment to Afghanistan and arrived in the country in January. He has been deployed to Iraq many times, CNN reports.
Nine children, three women, and four men were killed in the massacre, according to CNN. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is in charge of the investigation into the shooting.
