Air Force Gen. Norton Schwartz will award Capt. Barry Crawford the Air Force Cross today in a Pentagon ceremony. The Air Force Cross is the second highest military honor for an airman.
Fox News reports Crawford exhibited "extraordinary heroism" in a battle with Taliban insurgents on May 4, 2010.
According to the Department of Defense, Crawford took "decisive action to save the lives of three wounded Afghan soldiers and evacuate two Afghan soldiers killed in action."
Capt. Crawford spoke at length to the Pentagon press corps yesterday.
