USS Peleliu Honors Newtown Victims
The crew of the San Diego-based USS Peleliu took part in a special memorial field day while deployed at sea to honor the victims of the Newtown massacre.
Sailors and Marines who participated in the field day did 26 different exercises - one for each of the Sandy Hook victims.
As Home Post previously reported, Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 2nd Class Kimberly Henry came up with the idea for the field day. Henry is sending a care package with video and photos of the event to the Newtown families, along with the U.S. flag that flew above the USS Peleliu earlier this year.
The Peleliu is currently deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
