The Department of Defense has identified the U.S. soldier killed Sunday in an insider attack as Staff Sgt. Patrick H. Quinn, 26, of Quarryville, Penn.
Quinn died in Paktika Province, Afghanistan when a man wearing an Afghan army uniform opened fire at his base.
A Green Beret, Quinn was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson in Colorado.
Maj. Aram Donigian, a spokesman for the 10th Special Forces Group, told The Colorado Springs Gazette that Quinn joined the Army as an infantryman in 2006.
After serving in Alaska, Texas, and Iraq, Quinn was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualifications Course. He graduated this year, and became an engineer sergeant with the 10th Special Forces Group.
Quinn is survived by his wife and three sons.
