The USS Princeton arrived home to San Diego on Tuesday after an extended seven-month deployment. The guided-missile cruiser departed San Diego on April 3, and had its return date postponed by tensions in Syria.

Capt. Charles P. Good, Princeton's commanding officer, said of the homecoming:

"Throughout this extended deployment Princeton's crew has performed superbly maintaining an incredible work ethic, total commitment to our mission and pride in our ship.

"We're all glad to be safe at home and are looking forward to rejoining the San Diego waterfront and once again being part of this great community."
As Home Post previously reported, the instability in Syria back in early September prompted the Navy to send the Princeton to the Red Sea, extending its deployment.

An unnamed U.S. defense official told Reuters that the Navy moved the Princeton (along with the San Diego-based destroyers USS Stockdale and USS William P. Lawrence) into the Red Sea as "prudent planning" if the situation in Syria warranted U.S. military intervention.

When things cooled down a bit in the region, USS Princeton was cleared to head home.
