The U.S. Navy reported on its Twitter account that one crew member has died and one is still missing after their MH-53E helicopter went down in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 18 miles off the coast of Virginia.
Search and rescue operations continue for the missing crew member.
According to a Navy news release, the MH-53E Sea Dragon made an emergency water landing off the Virginia Beach coast near Fort Story.
As of 10:52 a.m. PST, the Navy reported one fatality in the crash.

The Coast Guard cutter Shearwater and two MH-60S helicopters from Helicopter Sea Combat Support Squadron Twenty Eight (HSC-28) are conducting the search and rescue.
The downed MH-53E Sea Dragon is assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fourteen, which is based at Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
