The U.S. Army is investigating the death of Pfc. Joshua A. Gray, 21, who died at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan on Feb. 10.
The Department of Defense has not released any specifics on how Gray died, except to say it was in a "non-combat related incident."
Gray was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
He grew up in Paintsville, Kentucky, and graduated from Johnson Central High School in 2011, according to WKYT-TV:
Friends say he was very involved....a member of the academic team, Skills USA team, prom king, and voted "Most Unforgettable" by his senior class.
Johnson Central High classmate, Lindsey Patrick, said of Gray joining the Army:
"He could have done anything with his life he was one of the most brilliant people I've ever met and that is what he chose to do and give his life. That is why he is so unforgettable."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
