There's a new ribbon special duty assignment ribbon for Marines who've completed a three year tour as combat instructor at the School of Infantry West at Camp Pendleton, or the School of Infantry East at Camp Geiger in North Carolina.
According to news release by Headquarters Marine Corps:
The combat instructors at the Schools of Infantry teach all Marines the basic combat skills which make every Marine a rifleman.
It is these skills which enable Marines of all military occupational specialties to be so successful in combat engagements with the enemy.
While recruiters, drill instructors and Marine security guards at embassies across the globe have long been awarded ribbons, combat instructors remained one of just two special duty assignments without a ribbon.
Marines are eligible for the ribbon, as long as they completed their 36-month tour as combat instructor on or after Oct. 9, 2002.
