State Senate Honors Late Senator Cox

The State Senate formally honored the late Senator Dave Cox Monday. For more than an hour Senators and former legislative leaders eulogized the Sacramento-area lawmaker. Cox died July 13th after a long battle with prostate cancer. Senators also voted to name the member’s coffee room “Cox’s Clubhouse” in his honor.

Former Senate GOP Leader Jim Brulte served in the legislature with Cox. He says the late Senator was determined and loyal.

“When it came to fighting for his party and his principles, there was never a more tenacious fighter. Like a character from a popular movie a few years ago. Dave’s attitude was never give up, never surrender.”

Cox’s wife Maggie thanked lawmakers for their support – but noted that she would not miss the overnight sessions.

Dave Cox served as a State Senator and a State Assemblyman. He was also Assembly GOP Leader and a Sacramento County Supervisor.
