The San Diego County Democratic Party announced Wednesday that former congressional candidate Francine Busby was reelected as chairwoman for the next two years.
She ran unopposed at a meeting on Tuesday, after another candidate withdrew. The county party works to raise funds and get Democrats elected in the region.
"The past two years showed that we can make gains even in a tough political climate for our party," Busby said. "Looking ahead to a more favorable cycle for Democrats, I know we can do even more to elect qualified progressive leaders throughout the county."
Busby said "continued success will result from being engaged and focused and working together — party officers, elected officials, organized labor, volunteers, donors, and all those who share our values and goals."
She said she would help the local Democratic organization ramp up its communications, policy advocacy and grassroots organizing efforts.
Nearly two-thirds of the county party's endorsed candidates won last November at a time when the countywide Democratic voter registration advantage hit an all-time high of more than 30,000, Busby said.
