Moderate rain is falling around San Diego County as a Pacific storm makes its way across Southern California. National Weather Service Forecasters predict thunder and lightning could follow the rain this evening
The National Weather Service warns 50 mile per hour winds could blow around San Diego's airport. A wind warning is in effect through 8 p.m.
In addition to thunder and lightning, the weather service says flooding could happen, especially in coastal areas like La Jolla, Cardiff and Del Mar.
Patrick Vernge is the lifeguard chief in Del Mar. He says they boarded up the tower and warned beach front residents to pull in their patio furniture.
"We're just going to be watching the size of the surf. They are predicting an additional five feet, so that'd take us to about 15 feet tomorrow. The wind and rain is supposed to pick up. So, really, we're just going to be monitoring and taking preparations as best we can."
In Tijuana, civil protection officials say rescue workers are ready and a number of shelters are open.
