Small Earthquake Rattles San Diego County

A magnitude-3.6 earthquake rattled the northeastern reaches of San Diego County today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The temblor struck at 3:37 a.m. at a depth of 4.3 miles, its epicenter four miles north-northwest of Borrego Springs, according to a preliminary, computer-generated report from the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
