Woman's fatal fall from Sunset Cliffs under investigation by San Diego police

An investigation was underway Monday into the death of a 25-year-old Chicago woman who fell about 40 to 50 feet from Sunset Cliffs while posing for a picture.

The fall from the cliffs between Ladera and Carmelo streets was reported about 5:20 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The woman was visiting family in San Diego and was with her sister when she fell, San Diego police Lt. Paul Phillips said.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
