Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Amtrak Train Near Downtown San Diego

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a passenger train today near the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, midway between Old Town and downtown San Diego.

The man was struck by an Amtrak train about 3:25 p.m. at Pacific Highway near Washington Street, San Diego police Officer Jason Jarrells said. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The North County Transit District subsequently canceled its northbound Coaster train 689 and directed its passengers to take the trolley to the Old Town station to board northbound Coaster train 691.
