A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries Thursday when he was struck by three vehicles, including a garbage truck, on an Old Town-area street.

The Republic Services trash-collection vehicle had just exited westbound Interstate 8 when it struck the 63-year-old man in the 3600 block of Camino del Rio West about 4:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego police.

Moments later, a Jeep Cherokee and Honda Civic ran over the victim as he lay in the roadway. The unidentified man died at the scene.
