The tax is a scaled back version of an earlier proposal that would have taxed both vacant homes and short-term home rentals. A majority of the San Diego City Council has now endorsed putting the new proposal to voters.

- Oct. 7 Official ballot drop boxes open.
- Oct. 20 Voter registration deadline; you can still conditionally register and vote through Election Day

- Dec. 2 Deadline to certify the election
