Author Explores E-mail Etiquette

Tom Fudge : Everybody knows that e-mail has more or less supplanted the old fashion letter as the way we send written communication to friends and colleagues. But few of us have been taught how to send e-mail. This is remarkable, since most of us, who are old enough, have received some instruction on how to construct a conventional letter. You know what I mean. It begins with Dear Mom, or Dear Sir. It ends with a sign-off like “Sincerely” or “Love,” depending on the relationship and level of formality.

But how do you address someone in an e-mail? How do you sign it off? And what do you put in the subject line? Those are the types of questions tackled by Judith Kallos. She is the creator of NetManners.com. And she’s author of a book called Because Netiquette Matters.
