Some say there are two chances for placing a healthcare reform measure on next year's ballot: slim and none. But others remain optimistic the governor and Democratic leaders can reach an agreement. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.

The governor and Democratic lawmakers are still trying to iron out their differences on healthcare reform. Their goal is to place a measure on the November ballot. Some believe there's a distinct possibility that won't happen.

Wright : It's not like the issue is going to go away. There will still be not only six plus million people in California who are uninsured, but there's millions more who have coverage, but are concerned that their coverage is not going to be there for them when they need it.

Even if lawmakers reach a deal and place a measure on the ballot, its chances aren't good. California voters have rejected the last five healthcare initiatives.
