Baseball Hall-of-Famer and former Padre Dave Winfield wants to keep the history of black baseball alive. He'll honor the Negro League's surviving players this weekend. Winfield talked to KPBS Reporter Andrew Phelps at Petco Park.

There was a time when black baseball players couldn't play with white players. So black ball players formed the Negro Leagues, which became one of the most successful sports leagues in American history. Most Americans have never heard of the Negro Leagues -- or the heroes that were born.
