Landmark Theaters kicks off another season of Midnight Madness (Saturdays March 31 through May 5 at Landmark's La Jolla Village Cinemas). The theme this year is time travel and the series has been dubbed "an adventure through time." The madness begins with a quintessential midnight movie, Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut. If you've never had a chance to see this cult classic, make an effort to attend. If you've seen it before, see it again. Bunny suits and man suits optional.
In 2004, filmmaker Richard Kelly had the opportunity to revisit his 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko and re-edit it to reflect what he had originally wanted to do with the film. The result was an additional 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage, new visual effects, and new music. Although the original version of the film still stands as a classic and has merits of its own, the director's cut does add substantial material and clarifies some of the film's themes.
