Citizens Push For County Probe of CCDC Navy Broadway Project
Tuesday, October 16, 2007
A citizens' coalition wants the County Grand Jury to investigate the way San Diego's Center City Development Corporation is handling the Navy Broadway project on the Embarcadero. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.
The Navy Board Complex Coalition is suing the city to get better traffic and seismic safety studies of the massive Manchester development on the Bayfront.
Coalition attorney Cory Briggs says the Center City Development Corporation has interceded on behalf of the developer.
Briggs : The concern we have is that CCDC is basically a shill for the developers. Events over the last week have finally allowed us to connect the dots and make a compelling case to the grand jury.
CCDC Board member Fred Maas is dismissive.
Maas : Honestly I think the whole debate is silly and many of these allegations are completely baseless.
Maas says the city risks being sued by the developer as well as the citizens' group and is trying to move forward on an agreement signed in 1992.
