San Diego's district attorney will conduct an internal review of the Cynthia Sommer case. Sommer went from convicted murderer to free woman last week after prosecutors dropped charges against her. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps has the story.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis says the developments of the last week remind her justice is not perfect.

Sommer was convicted of poisoning her Marine husband with arsenic. After more than two years at Las Colinas, the D.A. dropped a re-trial, and Sommer walked out of jail.

In a statement , Dumanis says she was "shocked" when new samples of Todd Sommer's liver showed no trace of arsenic. Dumanis insists prosecutors met their legal and ethical obligations at every step of the case.

Even so, Dumanis says she'll review the case to find out whether anything could have been done differently. She says the new developments raise more questions than answers.
