83 Percent of Children in San Diego County Are Completely Vaccinated

San Diego County health officials say this year's report card on children's health is pretty good. The County has released its 8th annual survey that measures 25 different areas of children's health and well-being. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.

The report card shows the percentage of children in San Diego County who have health insurance continues to rise. As does the percentage of mothers receiving prenatal care. 83 percent of young children in the County have received all of their vaccinations. But that means a lot of kids are still unprotected.

County Supervisor Greg Cox says that needs to change.

Cox : One of the things we want to try to do is a better job of education, why it's important for people to get immunizations for their kids. And not just as they're getting ready to enter school, but as they're in preschool age groups.

County health officials have announced the discovery of three local children who've come down with measles. Officials say the children had not been immunized against the disease.
