Unity Message Easier Pill For Clinton Supporters at Local Dem Rally

San Diego Democrats gathered in Hillcrest to watch election results. Party officials preached unity, but the crowd was clearly divided into two camps. KPBS reporter Joanne Faryon was there.

At a wood-paneled lodge in Hillcrest, Democrats celebrated the news of more registered voters. Their party is still the underdog in San Diego County, but the gap is narrowing.

Party officials were hoping that message would unify Democrats, but last night, campaign signs told a different story.

Just ask Mark Hamilton.

Hamilton : Behind this booth which is supposed to be for Obama were Clinton posters, and I thought that was a little devious, so we pulled them down.

Clinton signs and buttons clearly out-numbered Obama.

Party members say they'll rally together once a candidate is chosen. But it seemed to be an easier message to swallow for Clinton supporters as their candidate showed an early lead in California.
